Baby carriers

This factsheet applies to Baby carriers. Baby carriers may include carriers with framed backs, soft carriers without framed support, and slings.

Baby nests

Baby nests are comprised of bolstered edges or sides positioned around a mattress area to offer a cushioned sleeping area for the baby.

Baby swings

Baby swings include swings intended for children up to a weight of 9kg or unable to sit up unaided.

Baby walking frames

Baby walking frames are products that a child is placed into and is intended to be used from when the child can sit up by themself until the child is able to walk by itself.

Bedside sleepers

Bedside sleepers are cribs of adjustable height that can be used as a standalone item of furniture or fixed to a bed. They feature one long side that can be dropped down (so that the baby can be easily accessed).

Car seats

Car seats are used to transport young children in vehicles with the support of a child restraint. These include infant carriers, a supplementary chair, capable of being anchored to a power-driven vehicle.

Child bicycle seats

Child bicycle seats are child seats for cycles, which are intended to be mounted on pedal cycles and electrically power assisted bicycles, in order to transport children with a weight from 9 kg up to 22 kg (approximately 9 months up to 5 years) and who are capable of sitting unaided.

Children’s cots are those for home use with an internal length greater than 900 mm but not more than 1400 mm.

Free standing children’s highchairs are items that elevate children to dining table height usually for the purposes of feeding or eating. Children’s highchairs are for children up to 3 years of age who are capable of sitting unaided.

Reclined cradles can be fixed or folding and are intended for children up to a weight of 9 kg or who are unable to sit up unaided.

Safety barriers

Child safety barriers (also known as safety gates) are for domestic indoor use which are designed to be fitted across openings to limit a child’s access to specific areas and to prevent young children up to 24 months of age passing through.

Soothers and soother-holders

Soothers are designed to be put in the mouths of babies for long periods to satisfy their sucking behaviours while soother holders include all products that are intended to connet a soother for babies and young children with any product.
